Celebrating Graduation Montana Rescue Mission Style

For many families across the community, the end of May marks the beginning of graduation season and the beginning of new opportunities.  At the Montana Rescue Mission, we are so excited and proud that a member of our family has graduated and earned his HiSET diploma.  For James*, early life was difficult.  He grew up around drugs and gangs, not really having a chance or the proper encouragement to develop the success he was always capable of.

Before coming to the mission, James spent some time struggling with sobriety and finding his way in and out of prison.  Eventually, a social worker he was in contact with bought him a bus pass to Billings, where he came to our door.

James has been a guest with the mission since November, where he has been doing hard work, putting in long hours, and dedicating his efforts to take the next step in his personal development. It has been a blessing to us to see his growth during his time with us.

His plans for the future are all about family.  James recently became a grandfather and is looking to connect with his grandson, reconnect with his daughter, and with his HiSET diploma achieved, he is looking forward to finding a job that aligns with his personality and talents.

“I’ve come to understand that God often works through other people, and being part of this program has helped me learn to trust the guidance, support, and direction they are giving me,” James said.

For the Mission and our staff, a perk of the job is to celebrate with people who’ve made radical, transformative decisions that will impact their lives and the lives of those around them for years to come.  Way to go, James*!  We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.
