In Montana, where the cold weather often reaches below freezing, traversing Mother Nature’s challenges can tax staff and shelter guests. We must offer comfort and grace to those needing a space to escape the elements. As we are reminded of this cold weather, we find it fit to remind ourselves of our mission and provide an opportunity to share love and warmth.
We at MRM believe it’s important for all Christians to show the love of Jesus through service. Cold weather is hard for everybody who calls Montana home, but it becomes exceedingly difficult for families and individuals living on the streets or in their vehicles. Many people might not realize that hypothermia can begin to set in when the body’s temperature drops to just below ninety-five degrees. If you add in factors like age or malnutrition, life outside can equal a potentially fatal outcome.
Thankfully, Billings, Montana, has a strong community of donors and supporters backing each individual we serve. With their support, we at the Montana Rescue Mission continue our efforts to create a warm, comfortable, and safe place to stay when the weather is at its worst.
Our work is ever-evolving and expanding to keep up with the needs of an expanding homeless population and the dangers of cold weather. You may have already heard we are currently in the midst of an ongoing capital campaign to build a bigger, better, and more comprehensive shelter building where unhoused people calling Montana home can find the care they need. This project has come with many obstacles to overcome but has become a labor of love, and now that the project is in its final stages, we have been able to serve more people than ever before. We hope that a soft bed and a warm, nutritious meal to rejuvenate the body are the first steps to recovery and reintegration.
Suppose you’d like to contribute to the life-changing work this new shelter is already doing. In that case, our volunteering opportunities allow everyone to express their love for the community and those in need. During cold weather and flu season, your contributions are tremendously impactful. From serving hot meals to providing healthcare assistance, each helping hand makes a substantial difference.

God Bless,
